Senior Manager Data Science – Etihad Airways – Uae

To lead of broad team of data scientists, data engineers and fraud prevention professionals


Accountable for developing and execution Hala’s Data Science strategy and roadmap (including fraud prevention) to support each Hala business unit
Lead the development, deployment and communication of cutting-edge analytical models and projects, monitor their performance and take corrective actions when needed. Accountable for $20M annually in incremental EAG revenue based on Data Science and measured via test & control groups
Champion Data Science across Hala, make sure all departments’ needs are taken into account and efficiently translate data science problems for the team to solve. Ensure results are effectively communicated and actioned by Customer Engagement, Partnerships, Operations, and Fraud teams in each Hala business unit
Accountable Business Manager for an $8M USD project to develop analytical infrastructure (data storage, tools and capabilities) and single customer view (SCV) solution that spans all Hala business units and empowers efficient analytics, fraud prevention processes and workflows, rapid time to market and world-class quality
Provide thought leadership for implementing and fully utilizing Data Science on a big data platform (Hadoop, Cloudera, Spark, R, Scala, python, Zaloni, TriFacta, and other tools)
Develop and assist and direct others in building best-in-class actionable data science models, such as predictive models and segmentations, to drive customer engagement through personalization and targeting. Manage stakeholders throughout model building, testing, and implementation stages
Manage and develop both onshore and virtual data science and fraud prevention teams, coach and develop skills of the teams including analytical, technical, communications, leadership and project management skills. Evaluate and monitor quality of work to ensure reliable and meaningful results being reported to business
Develop and own projects concepts and business cases for all strategic initiatives regarding data science, fraud prevention, data and related technology
Accountable for objectives and business KPIS set for the data science and fraud prevention team, such as number of models developed, financial value generated, team performance etc
Champion development of Hala data asset, by evaluating and acquiring new data sources (internal, 3rd party, surveys etc.) to be used in data science and fraud prevention projects. Ensure data is recognized as an asset in commercial agreements


Strong academic record with M.Sc. or PhD. (preferred) in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics or related field
At least 12 years of experience in Data Science and Predictive Modelling, preferably from multiple industries. Seen as a recognized expert in his/hers field
At least 5 years of team leadership experience, and experience in leading project teams


Expert knowledge of data science processes, machine learning algorithms, statistical software (SAS, SPSS, etc.), programming languages (R, Python, etc.), statistical methods, and Big Data technologies and their application. Ability to coach and advice others in this area
Strong technical understanding for designing data science solutions and infrastructure, and for enabling efficient use of data and models in other business processes
Industry experience in Loyalty and Airlines and ability to vision how data and data science can create customer engagement and great customer experiences in those fields
Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
Keen commercial awareness and strong business understanding especially regarding monetization of loyalty programs
Presence to be seen as an data science thought leader in front of senior executives
